The needles have a shoulder on them that should be set flush
with the
bottom of the piston. Hold both pistons, with the needles
pointing towards each other. Move the pistons towards each other
until the tip of the needles touch the other piston.
If you do it that way be careful not to spill oil all over yourself. I
just use a straight edge - like a feeler gauge - to push the needle
shoulder until it's even with the piston bottom.
