Steve, I have stripped a couple of 240Z cars on a rotisserie.
Once you have scraped the bulk of the underseal off, you can use a 3M
scotchbrite pad or similar dipped in kerosine.
The pad will help polish up the body and the kero. will dissolve the
remaining tar type coating.
Use gloves and a dropsheet, but at least the kero can be hosed off
with a garden hose.
Just repeat as necessary and you will soon have a pristene under tray.

Finally got my 1970 mounted on my rotary fixture. I flipped the car on
it's
side and removed all of the undercoating with a paint scraper. There's
still a
small amount of tar on the metal and am wondering what is the best
product to
use to remove it? No explosive chemcials please. My parts cleaning
days by way
of gasoline are long gone.
