When I rebuilt my 4 speed about 10 years ago it wasn't a big problem. The
only thing that took me some time to get back together is the series of
balls, springs and rods that make up the shift fork detents and
interlocks. I didn't pull them out when I took the trans apart and when I
found them there, they jumped out when I pulled the retaining plugs! I had
no problem finding them all, but it took about an hour of trial and error
to get them back in as they were intended!
