Thanks to all who sent advice on my carb problems from
a few weeks ago.
Result was that 1. the connecting rod and bits between
the two carbs had some screws come loose, making the
carbs unbalanced. 2. Fixing that, I did not
disconnect the linkages properly to balance the carbs.
3. Fixing that, the front carb needle was shot, so
needles were replaced.
FYI, and excuse if I use the wrong terminology here,
my carb (38mm hitachi SUs) nozzle? size was .97 not
the expected .90 for a 1600. My carb shop drilled
these out to .100 to make needle choice easier. The
needles used were british TW. I gather this is a
fairly rich needle but it was deemed right for the
engine. I will monitor how the car runs but it sure
feels good so far.
