Sounds like NY drivers :(

2 people were recently killed when a taxi driver lost control and mounted a
sidewalk and mowed down a slew of people. He said the exact same thing and I
say bullshit - He hit the gas pedal rather than the brake pedal.

Kinda sounds like the Audi phenomenom a few years ago.
