Thomas/Mike,
I have removed the front pick ups where the body bolts to the frame (first
bolts), and drilled 20 mm holes in the back member. This allowed me to run
a hose through the chassis, and wash all the gunk out of it. You would be
surprised at what came out.
I had to cut out the rust on the bottom plate at the rear "bend" where the
leaf spring pick ups are. I had to cut out about 200 mm, and when I peeled
it away, it was full of mud and flakes of rust. Luckily, the square section
only had surface rust, so it cleaned up ok.
I will need to fabricate the new "bend" section out of 2.5 mm steel, and
weld it back in. Then I will drill a couple of holes at the back where the
original welds were, so it can drain in the future.
Lastly I will need to make up a new bracket and weld a nut onto it, and put
it back in the front section, but I will turn it around 90 degrees, and put
a plastic plug, so that I can have access to the inside of the chassis in
the future......
Cheers,
Sel
