I also recommend wiring in a fusible link on the starter wire harness where
the car receives its main power in addition to the alternator white wire.
A fusible link is 2 gauges smaller than the smallest wire in the circuit and
has a special covering that doesn't burn but melts. The metal wire will melt
because of additional amperage and protect the other wires in the circuit.
For example if the smallest wire is 10 gauge use a 12 gauge fusible link
wire. Fusible link wire is available at most good auto parts stores.
I think Rallye sold a kit for the starter harness many years ago using a
fusible link.

Driving along when all of a sudden there was this "POP" and smoke started
billowing out. So I pull over along the freeway, and as I pop open my door
to jump out, a semi-truck drives by and the draft from it was so strong that
it pulled the door out of my hands. Since my door stopper had long since
broken off, the door whipped forward and hyper-extended itself, putting a
wonderful, huge dent in the door. Oh, happy day! Just @#$%ing wonderful!
> What had happened with mine was that the main white wire that connects to
the alternator had grounded against the body of the alternator (the
insulator was broken or had gone missing), which made my rather expensive
amp gauge turn into a fuse. I suspect something like that has happened:
Your wire has grounded out somewhere. That was why Dan at Rallye suggested
in his catalog that you wire in a 30 amp or bigger fuse or a fusible link
into that system. After that, I did (fuse), and have not had any problems
since. Sorry to hear your Roadstering is temporarily interrupted. If
you're not too concerned about keeping all the gauges stock, an alternative
is to use one out of a Z car. Probably more available... maybe you can
change

Tempe is gorgeous, mid to upper 70's, not a cloud in the sky. A nice day to
get a hair cut and go out in the Roadster to do so. Well, a few miles from
my home, when taking a corner, the engine died. The whole electrical system
seemed to go out on me. I was able to roll into a parking lot. As I pulled
to a stop, smoke came billowing out from under the right hand side of the
dash. I wanted to quickly see where this as coming from, but, I could not
open my hood! The hood opens up all the time when I don't want it to, but
this morning, it would not budge. Anyway, I called AAA, and 30 minutes
later I was home. (First time I've used them, I was impressed.)

The gauge is foggy with what looks like dark water condensation on it. I'll
continue to look into the wiring, but while I'm doing that, anybody got a
spare early 1600 ammeter? Any other advice would be appreciated as well.
