I don't know about silicone brake fluid, but regular brake fluid is very
hygroscopic, that
is, it attracts moisture. I found out the hard way that the BMW folks at BMW
were right
about specifying once a year fluid changes - luckily it was a clutch, not a
brake failure.
Moisture in my clutch fluid had accumulated at the lowest point in the system,
the slave
cylinder, and frozen into a little plug of ice when my '76 3.0 Si was parked
outside
overnight in 18 deg. F. Next morning when I depressed the clutch pedal, that
little chunk
of ice wiped out the seal and voila! No clutch 8^( With some smooth clutchless
shifting
(thank goodness for good synchros!) and a little luck at traffic lights, I
drove it home,
about 200 miles, with no incident.
