If you're there for only 6 months, you're not a resident. My wife was
stopped in the SF Valley years ago in her 65 Mustang for her Texas
plates. She was actually living there so she re-registered. The cop
didn't ticket her, just told her to get registred. Seems like if you
can show the cop you are on a limited gig you would legitimately show
your Wyoming residency. Some folks do get by for years paying out of
state registration and insurance while being actual CA residents, so that
may be why they're touchy.
