Thanks for all the replies,,, and yeah... I know that ultimately it will be
tank-dropping time soon.
FWIW - all metal lines on my car underneath and up to the carbs. the only
rubber in the system is recently replaced "connection" lines that are only
inches long. These I am certain are not the culprits. Also.. the filter is
before the pumt I know it's not coming from there. Someone mentioned surface
treating the tank before applying the coating ("rusting" the tank first) NO
other bits to be found in the filter.
Will let everyone know when the mystery solved
