Mike,
Tell us more about the Crane 3000. What is it, what can it do for
you, what are the benefits/detractions, where do you get it, etc. I may
be needing to re-curve and/or replace my distributor and this sounds like
a potential option.

P.S. I ordered two ballast resistors from Tonkin Nissan in PDX. The item
came back discontinued. The guy worked pretty hard at it, and told me he
cross referenced it to a Car Quest ballast resistor PN# RU10. Cost was
$11.31. Sound familiar to anyone? That's already 7.5% of the cost of the
Crane 3000 unit Mike's referencing.

Rob,
When I had points I had the same problem when using the factory specs and
did as you did. I got fed up and installed a Petronix. I will be
installing
a Crane 3000 in the future as it's the uprated model of the cheaper 700
series. With the 3000 you don't need a ballast resistor and can run really
hot coils and get a better burn than either the Petronix or 700.
Mike
BTW - the 3000 is about 150 and the coil.
