Robert,
You can fix it with the head in place. You need to remove the rocker arm
assembly first. Get a helicoil that is the correct size for the stud and
install it in the stripped hole. Screw the stud back in and you are ready
to go. I believe the helicoil's come with some basic instructions. You
will want to use loctite on the helicoil and on the stud so that they do not
turn and loosen up on you in the future.
It has been ages since I have installed a helicoil so somone else may be
able to offer more complete installation assistance.

Subject: Rocker arm stud stripped on the head
Dearest List,
In preperation for a couple of upcoming events (Autocrossing on Sunday,
and hooking up with TDROC/WYCROC in Durango on Aug 1st), I decided to
re-touque my head, and check the valve adjustments on my 67.5 1600.
No prob re-touquing (thanks for the previous posts). I was getting ready
to check the valve adjustments, and noticed I had a loose nut on one the
studs holding the rocker arm assembly. Turns out that the head (aluminum)
is stripped where the stud screws in.
Any tips on fixing this, hopefully without pulling the head???
Thanks for your help,
Robert
