The truth is:
The equipement to do a proper "spin" balance on the crank, camshaft, and the
flywheel is not your typical machine shop equipement. It is not only very
sensitive but also very expensive, which is why alot of machine shops farm
it out to qualified companies. (Maybe that's why your getting dinged $165.00
for just the crankshaft?)
Most qualified "balancing" companies do a pretty good job, but if you want
some piece of mind then take the time to ask what kind of machine they use. I
can tell you from hands on experiance that the best machine is made by
"SCHENCK TREBEL" and probably 7 out of 10 balancing shops use them.
