The pan is the right idea, but make sure to leave room for the air to escape
for the compartment, also on my 67.5 there is an open area on the drivers
side of the radiator that should be covered. You might also check if the air
can flow over the radiator?

I tried putting a pan between the bottom of the radiator and the cross 
member on my 67.5 to see if it would help the heating problems I was having.
It made only a slight difference.  I had an old Volvo 244 that would
overheat
even in cool weather when the pan was removed.
