Matt,

Wonderful job on the Restoration and the Web page! I like your hints

>Matt Writes:
HINT: On the later cars, with vapor recovery, Datsun routed the carburetor
float bowl vent hoses to the air cleaner assembly. Mike explained that this
was actually creating a vacuum in the float chamber thus not allowing the
fuel to freely flow to the jet at higher engine rpm's. To test this theory
out, I removed the hoses and drove home with them disconnected. Once again,
Mike was right. The engine now revs freely all the way up and runs much
smoother at freeway speeds as well. God only knows why Datsun never
discovered this flaw.

YES!! I thought I was alone on this one! I always believed I had something
adjusted wrong because she would not run right with the vents attached. Good
one

HINT: I am planning on installing KYB Gas Adjust shocks (the white high
pressure ones). I have used them on many vehicles including a 1961 VW
Karmann Ghia, a 1966 Ford Galaxie convertible and my current 1998 Toyota
Tacoma pickup. They are great shocks that have a lifetime warranty. However,
according to KYB's catalog, they no longer make the rear shocks for the
Roadster. After doing some research using several cross reference charts in
several shock manufacturer catalogs, I found that the rear shocks off the
1965-1985 Datsun / Nissan 2 wheel drive pickup trucks were identical in all
aspects to the Roadster shock with one exception. The fully extended length
of the truck shock is slightly longer than the fully extended length of the
Roadster shock (which allows for the longer suspension travel of the
trucks). Compressed length, mounting hardware, diameter and all other
aspects were the same.

Great work in tracking down an equivalent and you will like these shocks. I
Do!

Keep up the good work and I guess we'll see the results in July at Shasta or
October at Doheney.
