Sorry, I disagree with your asessment of the 01 Miata. In the 01 models the
rockers are thicker and the car has been strenghtened almost everywhere even
including the sway bar mounts, which on the 99s and 00s are rather flimsy.
Additionally the 01s now have variable intake timing and give a broader
torque curve. The headlights are also better with a better pattern. The
seats are much more comfortable and if you buy the sport package you get the
6 speed, as a matter of fact you get a 6 speed with all but the base model.
Buy the 01 model as it's better in every way over the 00 model.
I test drove the 01 model back to back with a 00 model that a club member
had and it rode and handled better with the sport package.
I have a modified 91 with body braces everywhere and the 01 model is far
stiffer.
