Hey Chris and all -
No flames here. On the East Coast event - I have been talking to Paul Kort,
and the guys at MADROC about setting something up next year. The TN town of
Bristol has come up as an "in between" place to meet. Also, the first of
June seems to be agreeing with everyone's schedule. I would very much
welcome your thoughts so we can get this ironed out the first of the year.
SEROC will work very hard to make this happen!!!
We at SEROC welcome all Datsuns. There is not one Roadster owner that would
not love to have a Z or 510. I would say that we open the East Coast event
to all Datsuns. I feel that if we can get the East Coast event underway
with all Datsuns, like Shasta, then the possibilities of a National Datsun
Rally is much closer. As is an all Datsun magazine and National club. Some
Z car owners might not like Roadsters, but I think most appreciate our cars
as much as we like the Z. If we show we can be united and ignore people
that are disruptive in nature, we can help to get all Datsuns together.
All the ROCs across this country (world) would love to get together. The
logistics of this is hard, but a National Rally is doable. A National
Registry is well under way (thanks to Roman Rist and Mark Dent) and should
be pushed for more participation. I am as guilty at the rest for not
pushing this harder. With the registry we have essentially started the
National Roadster club, which then could be incorporated into a National
Datsun club and event. I don't know the workings of starting/publishing a
magazine, but as we get closer to a National Datsun movement, someone that
is in the right position to start a magazine will step forward. The guys
against it will be left hanging.
I have been on this list for a year and it is wonderful!!!! But like Chris
said, lets get together - clubs, vendors, owners. The Roadster people are
GREAT and if we act as ambassadors of all Datsun cars we can make a
difference - people will come to us! I congratulate Mike, Doug, Calspeed,
and others for "crossing the fence" - we all need to do more of this.
Remember - we are DATSUN then ROADSTER, DATSUN then 510, DATSUN then Z.

At the risk of fanning the flames I have decided to comment on this
and the
state of the datsun community.
Sport Z: Why would you ignore a market that would expand your
subscriber base
with only a slight change in format? There are several writers out
there who
have done Roadster and 510 articles. It wouldn't take much to put
them in the
magazine.
This magazine E-mailed me at the club web site to ask about writers.
I did
put him in touch with some. I also indicated my support for the
magazine. I
have heard nothing about the mag. until the posts on the lists. As
head of a
90+ members club, I can get the word out about these things yet I
seem to
have been ignored!
Zdriver.com: An article was written about our Mid Ohio Vintage event
in June.
I invited the author to the party that OROC sponsored and arranged
for a ride
during the parade laps. The article didn't even get the club name
correct!
I have made several attempts over the last few years to organize
and/or
support a National Datsun community. These actions have resulted in
a
bombardment of negative e-mails and very little support. Others that
have
tried to do the same thing have gotten the same results. There is
constant
arguing about this or that. There is no community! We are
fragmented and
heading in different directions.
ZCCD: My wife and I did everything we possibly could to help Mark
make this a
success. He came from with in. He is a Datsun nut like the rest of
us. This
magazine was probably doomed from the time he took it over due to
poor
business practices by the previous owners. My hats off the Mark for
his HUGE
sacrifice to try and make it go!
I will support any national or east coast event that we can. We
certainly
make sure the our club members know about everything. If we want
support from
Nissan lets get together on it. The other vendors that support
Datsuns are
not getting rich from this. Each time you purchase something for
your vehicle
you make a choice where to spend the money. How long can our vendors
stay in
business if we don't spend money with them when we can. If we want a
magazine
to cover more than Z's lets get together on it. If we want the
respect we
deserve from other car marques we have to present our selves better!
I am sorry for being so long winded but I tired of the talk and no
action.
Yes, I am an opinionated sob but those that have need around me know
that
when something needs done I WILL get it done. We must come together
on all of
these issues! If we expect the support of magazines and vendors so
we can
continue to enjoy Datsuns, they must know that WE will support them.
Not
everything is perfect but if you don't participate in making them
better you
have no right to complain!
