Sorry, I wasn't sure if anyone was interested. First I put the trim on the
rubber with the rubber NOT on the window. This is fairly easy since you can
slide the trim on from one end of the rubber, all the way until it is fully
on. Use soapy water and this is easy. Unfortunately when you go to put the
rubber with trim onto the window, the trim pops back off -- at least it did
to the long, top side. The bottom stayed on pretty well so I only had to
use the trick on the ends. There were two tricks actually. First I used a
3' long piece of springy wire (like piano wire) and threaded this into the
slot of the rubber. Then positioned the trim in place as much as possible.
If you can get the trim into the rubber slot on the end, then start pulling
out the wire such that the wire "folds out" and doesn't pull out, you can
get the rubber "lip" to fold into the trim. ...hard to describe. The end of
the wire that you are not pulling on should not move.
The second trick which I found when the wire trick quit working, is to
simply use a pair of pliers to grab the rubber and pull it enough that the
rubber lip will pull up and then drop back into the trim groove. I think it
would be possible to do the whole top and bottom this way. Just be careful
not to pull too hard and remove a chunk of the rubber. The side trims will
simply slide down the rubber (use some soapy water) and no tricks are
needed.
Lastly, you should "de-burr" the end of the trim if you do the "sliding
thing" because if it has any sharp edges (mine did), it will scratch the
rubber and possibly leave scratch marks on it that are visible (I did some
of this).

Since I'm putting in my brand new windshield this afternoon (with help from
an auto window company) we better not break it! For those doing this now,
last night I put the new rubber gasket around the new windshield and then
got the stainless steel trim put in (quite a job but at the end, of course,
I learned the trick).
