Hey all-
I would normally go to the "Listquest Archives" for routine questions like
this but their site appears to be down? Don't get me wrong-your family and
all <g> but I love the collective knowlege of past and present list members
that the archives are able to chronicle. BTW all you "newbies" ought to
check out the Listquest and Escribe archives-they're a wealth of knowlege!

My question is simple: What is the optimum fuel pressure that the SU carbs
like to run at? I know this was touched recently and seem to remember 4 1/2
pounds-is this right?
Background: After installing my perfectly running rebuilt 2L into its new
home (early 67) and gettin everything hooked up, I cranked it over only to
find it missing and coughing. It was running *barely*, and seemed to be
relying on the front two cylinders. Nothing had been changed, so I was
baffled. I did however notice that neither of the fuel filters (before and
after the pump) had much fuel in them. I used compressed air to blow out
the fuel line to the tank (no resistance) and a siphon fitting to prime the
fuel lines and pump (again, no resistance). Confident I had cleared out an
obstruction, I started it, of course with the same result. Sidenote: the
definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again,
expecting a different result :-)
Due to reliability and concerns with the current mechanical unit, I had
wanted to install an electric fuel pump anyway, but didn't want to drop the
cabbage needed to do it right. My hand was forced! (These cars seem to
have a way of making decisions for you! <g>) I purchased an adjustable
pressure Walbro bellow style pump from JC Whitneys, supposedly adjustable
from 1 3/4 pounds all the way up to 5 pounds. I plan on mounting it in the
rear (near the tank) with one filter before the pump and a smaller one
before the carbs. Any suggestions?
Sorry for my long-windedness! Please message me with any thoughts.
Thanks again!
Nathan
