One other thing you might want to try is to do is crude "cylinder leakdown"
test. With some basic air hose parts and a compression gauge you can pressurize
the cylinders. Then see how long it takes for that pressure to leakdown. While
you are doing this, keep the radiator cap off and look for bubbles in the
coolant when the cylinders are pressurized.
