YIKES!

White smoke may not be a good sign, as the white aspect is quite
possibly steam, made from water in the coolant....check this out: do you
have any oil under your rad cap?  Is there any coolant in your oil pan? 
I would be willing to bet that your new hot starting problems are
directly related.
