I read a couple of the other responses about maybe the valve seals going bad,
but my guess would be the rings. That would seem to me to be the first thing
that would go, rather than the valve guides or seals, as there is quite a bit
more friction created bu the rings than anything else. I think you are just
going to have to pull the engine and tear it down, then see what got damaged.
