Ok, wrench- in- the- works time:
I do like the logic of rotational symmetry, but,
One shoe (the back one) is set up to servo (use the car's rotational
energy to help braking) while the car is moving forward. The other (the
front) is set up to do just that while you're going BACKWARDS. So then,
since you'd want maximum servo action in both directions, wouldn't you
want them set up the same?
Oh, I give up- but I do recommend Fred Puhn's "Brake Handbook" as it
actually explains these things. ANd it has a few pix of roadsters'
brake parts (but you won't get much roadster-specific help, I'm afraid)
BTW, last set of shoes I put on (the Aussie- made ones, Repco?) had the
lining set back equally on each end of the shoe. Nothing is consistent
these days!
