idler shafts

What is an acceptable amount of play in an idler shaft assembly? The shaft
on  mine has an almost imperceptable spot of wear on one side where it meets
the lower bronze bushing. when assembled there is a significant amount of
slop. Can this be remedied with new bushings or should the shaft be
refinished/replaced?
