Sounds like your float levels are too high, and you're flooding the
carbs (overpressure from the fuel pump can do this too. If you have
an electric pump, a regulator is a good idea. Pumps for american cars
typically run at a higher pressure than the foreign applications,
according to a couple of pump boxes I was reading). Pull the piston domes
(car off, of course!) and look carefully at the needle seat. You can see
the fuel level! If it's too high, it'll be spilling over into the carb.
