Aha,
My findings, from looking at lots of cars- sometime in mid '67 Datsun
started putting weld-nuts in the rear frame for 2 back up lights. (four
holes) However, if you MOUNTED 2 lights, they would not be
symmetrical. Sometime in early '69, they BECAME symmetrical, and
sometime in '69 after THAT, they got 2 back-up lights! Now, that
doesn't mean that the second back-ups weren't dealer-added, as it was
pretty darn easy (did '69 harnesses have provision for both?- '68
didn't, and '70 did)...
But of course, my back-up light doesn't work...
Silly, yes.

My '69 1600 (SPL311-24529) has two reverse lights hanging off the
rear bumper.

For what it is worth , when I restored the blue late 67 1600 left hand
drive there were only 2 holes for mounting the light and they were in a
odd place towards the passenger side. Too much Saki for lunch break?

Interesting. I took a look under the car and noticed that my car has
enough
holes for two lights.
