I've kinda got the opposite problem. I extended my antenna wire to the new
stereo in the trunk, and the reception is terrible. I don't know why the
stock antenna wouldn't work better than that.

Any ideas?

I finally got the original-style antenna put into my '64. It towers a
stunning 52" above the fender when fully extended - reminds me of the old
"Trans-Atlantic" short-wave radios. Got it all hooked up and hit the
switch. Crackle. Finally figured out that the switch only works when I
hold it half way in. Tuned to a station and heard a woman's voice.......
in Chinese. The local Chinese-language AM station. Tuned around for some
Japanese, but no luck. The radio sounds surprisingly good.

Trivia note: the 1500 has an amplifier circuit built into the speaker box.
