I am taking my 68 2000 engine to a machinist hopefully today.
Any last second suggestions on pulling the engine-so far I have pulled off
everything visible in the engine bay. Need to disconnect clutch, then
drive shaft and the rear and front engine mounts.
Looking at the head gasket I had a water leak at the front of the
engine-but the water was just running between two holes at the front and
probably not getting into the cylinder. Also, the head has about .1 mm of
space at the separation between piston 2 and 3, and it looks as though
there was some cross-flow there.
I will have the machine shop completely bathe everything and clean it up,
then make decisions from there. If I (probably) bore it, are there
inexpensive pistons around? These guys all know what this engine is but
haven't done one for years. All the guys are in their late 30s, 40s and
50s, and they seem to be very knowledgeable.
Any suggestions?
