I am having a problem with the car cutting out at high rpm's in low gears. I
was at an autocross event in Denver last weekend and the problem developed
after a few runs on the course. I had not experienced the problem a all
before, but after 2 runs on the course it just showed up out of nowhere. I
have a stock 1600 with SU carbs, and a stock fuel pump. When I have the car
approaching 3500 rpm in 2nd gear, the motor begins to cut out, but I have
none of the cutting out symptoms when I am on the interstate in 4th gear
doing 4500 rpm's. The car will also begin to cut out when I am in a lower
gear with 3000-3500 rpms on a downhill interstate entrance ramp, or any
place for that matter. I also have a fuel leak at the bottom of the bowls
where the adjusting nut is at, that will let the bowls completely drain dry
in as quick as a few (3-4) hours, but has not caused any problems so far
other than it takes the car longer to start due to a lack of fuel.
Any help or suggestions would be a great help!
Thanks,
Greg Nelson
