Howdy, all.
This message will serve two purposes:
1) To check and see if chapman-era is still on
the air!
2) To pose a couple of technical (though,
admittedly not strictly chapman era related)
engine questions that have been on my mind
recently.
Question A) is, how practical is a Kent engine
based on the 2 litre BDG/BDP flavored Aluminum
block, for a primarily street driven vehicle.
I've heard that these engines may have cooling
issues when run on gasoline (as compared to
Alcohol fuel, which they run on in Midgets)
because of their siamesed cylinder walls.
Question B) is, how would a destroked 2 litre
engine act, as a practical street driver? I'm
thinking that a 90 bore engine with a twin cam
stroke would have mind blowing throttle response,
because of a very low reciprocating inertia for
its displacement. It also ought to have a superb
rod ratio, especially if (longer) Cosworth rods
were used. Also, it should be just about right
in terms of the available torque from a 1.8-ish
litre engine being less likely to wipe out the
drivetrain of an Elan or a 7, compared with a 2
litre engine.
