I have a 72 Europa Big Valve Twin cam w/352 4 spd trans. The car is fully
restored and I had it out last week at an auto-x to get out the bugs from a
suspension and engine rebuild. I am having a very strange problem and am not
sure what to take apart next. When I shift at red-line from 1st to 2nd it
works fine while driving in a straight line or a right turn. When I turn
left and shift at red-line into 2nd, grind-grind-grind. Shift below 5,500 and
everything is OK. The trans has been rebuilt by a professional shop and all
parts in the shift linkage were replaced (Us, shift plates, etc.). The grind
sound is the same as when you don't quite find the gear - which doesn't seem
to be a synchro problem.
Anyone have an ideas ?
PS: even with short shifting 1st, I still took 1st place - so I guess the
rebuild was a success.
