For what it's worth, I drove my 1967 BJ8 daily from 1967 to 1977, putting
100,000 miles on the odometer---with no electrical failures of any kind. I
did replace my fuel pump points once. My present 1960 BT7 seems just as
reliable. I have no problem with Lucas electrical components. In some cases,
Lucas parts may be somewhat lighter than American counterparts, but I've
always considered that a function of Britain's island economy, and European
conservative (literally) engineering in general.
