I've had the solid state Facet fuel pump on my Alpine for about 7 years
now.  I've had no problems.  Two suggestions: (1) get the shock absorbing
rubber mounts.  It does make noise when mounted straight to metal.  (2) it
pushes, and doesn't really suck, so mount it as low as possible so gravity
will keep the fuel flowing from the tank to the pump (and don't have the
fuel line go up and over anything high before getting to the pump).
