Listers,
Remember that never rusted, never wrecked, lo mile 1967 Morris ragtop that
I bought for wife, Carolyn, to replace the Minor Pickup that we shipped to
a buyer in Chicago??? Well, It's not never wrecked anymore.
Carolyn was hit nearly head-on on a curvy canyon road on Thursday by a
Toyota 4unner SUV - she is shook up but OK but the '67 Morris will probably
be totaled. The 4runner driver, who was on the cell phone at the time
jumped out and told Carolyn that she should be driving a bigger, safer
car!!!!!
Carolyn saw her coming and hit the brakes and headed for a wide driveway to
the right, the woman swerved to the LEFT!!! and hit the little Morrie dead
center but at an angle and spun it around. We will see what happens but it
will take months to fix and it will always look repaired from the bottom
effectively removing about $2,000 of value from the car forever. You can't
insure against THAT!
Depending on how much they offer and what the buyback will be, we will
probably keep the remains and try to fix it but with the house remodeling
project and the need for a new car it will probably go on a back burner for
awhile. It will be repairable but I will be needing a bonnet (the internal
bracing is OK), a front bumper valance, a rear bumper valance, a 67 style
front mount heater fan and a right front wing. We also could use the
internal panel that holds the radiator but ours might be repairable. I
would like to find these in California if possible.
Now we are thinking about a replacement car and if we are going to get a
bigger,late-model car or just an interm Toyota clunker to use until the
Minor is repaired. This all is a drag and something that I REALLY would
prefer not to deal with but what can I do?
A sad situation but on the bright side is that these are very strong cars
and a late model econobox would probably have blown to pieces in the same
accident. Carolyn only scraped her knee and this was because the interior
panel was removed to lube the window regulator and she rubbed against a
sharp edge though she did bend the hell out of the steering wheel.
Cheers,
