Good thing, too. God only knows how many lives, American, Japanese, and
other nationalities that jackass cost by his foolishness and dereliction of
duty in the hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He had warning.
Kimmel and Short got castigated for Pearl Harbor, but MacArthur had much
more warning and still did nothing. Locked himself in his office. His
junior officers were so afraid of him that they dared not disturb him nor
take action themselves. The resultant debacle, though costing fewer lives
than Pearl Harbor, cost us much more in strategic advantage and in
airplanes. There is no telling how much that extended the war and how many
lives were lost on both sides as a result. He should have been busted for
it.
