I posted this question to the local Shelby list and got zip replies, so
I thought I would give it a try on the british-cars list before
committing to ordering these ball-joints. BTW, these uprights have the
trunnions I asked about a few days ago.
I'll be replacing the ball-joints at the bottom of the uprights as part
of the rebuild of my Cobra's front suspension. Because AC Cars didn't
see fit to provide grease fittings for these ball-joints they were very
rust prone. I solved this problem for my car by adding grease fitting
when I replaced the original ball-joints 30 years ago. Cobra Restorers'
solution is replacement ball-pins made of stainless steel. This is an
interesting approach, but I have some qualms about this.
I know many of you drive your cars in track events and auto crosses.
What's the general wisdom about using parts made of stainless steel in
places that will be subject to very high stresses?
Thanks,
Roland
