In case any of you happen to be thinking about your travels this year, here's
a few things going on around Salt Lake City during the summer months. Perhaps
you may want to work something into your schedule, rather than just viewing
Salt Lake as glorified rest stop on the way to or from some surrounding area,
like the plethora of parks in the southern portion of the state.
The Autocross season will start off at the end of March, with regional events
most any Sunday. Currently I'm planning on the British Motor Club day at the
autocross being Sunday, May 7th, and we may have an autocross driving school
on the previous day, May 6th. This could be held here at the University of
Utah.
Our big autocross events will be the Wendover Divisional the last weekend in
June (24/25) and the Pro Solo, once again scheduled for the same weekend as the
VTR national meet. So you know where I'll be!
The British Motor Club's annual Field Day will likely not be the weekend before
Memorial Day, but possibly in the middle of June, perhaps the 17th. That will
be in downtown Salt Lake. It is a one day car show, Funkhana and such, getting
bigger every year. More details later.
One reason that it may NOT be June 17th is that Intermountain Vintage Racing
has scheduled the second annual Bear Hollow Hillclimb for that weekend. This
was a neat event last year, with quite a range of cars showing up. Everything
from a late model Chevy Sprint to a real Ferrari GTO took a try at getting up
the steep, twisty section of road. I may even enter one of my Spitfires this
year, or have The Rust Rocket roaring once again by then!
And there are rumors that IVR is putting together a street race for the Park
City area, possible the weekend before Labor Day, giving West coast racers
a chance to practice before they continue on to the big RMVR event in Steamboat
Springs, Colorado on Labor Day weekend.
I may or may not be around, as I plan on attending a few out of state autocross
events, as well as the big trip to the VTR meet. If any of you folks from the
West want to meet up in SLC on your drive to Rockford, keep in touch.
