I was working on a friends '75 Midget last week....it was overheating some.
A replacement thermostat and valve adjustment sorted that out. However,
I jumped in to test drive...and the car had no power...it revved, but
didn't want to go anywhere. I checked the point gap (*ding ding* warning
bells) and checked the timing...20degBTDC!!!!
I set it to factory which
is 4ATDC...still no power...gradually took it up to 15BTDC where it wouldn't
ping, but still a lack of power. I then realised that this car shouldn't have
points. It had been retrofitted w/ a 25D distributor. I figured that the
advance curve must be totally out of wack for this engine (the advance weights
are working however). It didn't seem to matter where I put the timing,
to retarded, and it would lose more power, advance it and power would increase
but would ping beforereaching full power potential. I then found out
she was running regular. Would putting in premium help a little here?
Lastly, does anybody have the spring set for th original distributor for
this car, so I can switch them for whatever is in there now.
