It may be a good thing that I discovered this network, but now
all I do is think about all of the neat stuff I can learn. Anyhow I
just posted a letter concerning getting into the ring of autocrossing
in my '71 MGB-GT.
My 2¢ worth: autocrossing requires good driving and good preparation,
in that order, in my opinion. The best car won't win unless it is well
driven but I have seen many shabby cars driven superbly and win.
I'd rather not stir up a discussion about the relative importance of these
two factors but I suggest you get out there and learn to drive before
sinking a lot of money into preparing your BGT. Also, driving the car
will point out its weaknesses and will help you establish repair and
upgrade priorities. It will be a nice neutral car to learn with but
eventually you will curse the GT's extra weight compared to a Tourer.
By all means, go out there and have a good time. You'll become a better
driver for the experience. Oh, BTW, you might want to subscribe to the
AutoX Digest, too.
