Good post by Paul Swengler on DOT5. That is another advantage I
failed to mention, is it is not a paint stripper. Also MUCH higher
temperature tolerance. As for it being harder to bleed, which was
mentioned in a previous post, I've never found that to be the case
in 3 (MGB, BMW 320i & 3.0s) cars I've used it in, including my 1973
BMW 3.0s, which has THREE bleed nipples on each front caliper. As
far as stripping the system for anything that has come in contact
with DOT3 or DOT4, I've never done it & again, after 10 years of
use in 3 cars, I haven't found it necessary. I've bled the system
when changing over, really flushed it out good, but I've only been
replacing what needs to be replaced as it needs it.
