        Concerning your second point, plastic lenses can be buffed with a 
light automotive paint rubbing compound, on a high speed, light cotton 
wheel.  Use light pressure, and you'll get good results.
        However, UV radiation from the sun distorts the color of the polymer 
lenses over time, so new ones will have a more brilliant color.
