**** I'll say. For my money, DP40 is one of the best primers there is. Cures
as hard as rock, completely waterproof, an ideal base for Imron or other
polyurethane enamel. Possibly not UV resistant enough to use as a
topcoat, but a friend of mine uses the black variety as ``general purpose
flat black paint'' for under-the-hood stuff.
I don't know about that ``vari-prime'' stuff, but I'd be suspicious of
any paint that contained acid.
