Hello,
I just got back (in a manner of speaking) from a weekend reconnaissance of the
Springfield, VT area. Fall foliage is at it's peak right now in that section of
VT. It should still be quite lovely in the area for the 11th annual British Car
Fraternity Tour. It looks like housing is pretty tight, but you should plan to
come for the day on Sat. or Sunday at the very least.
Saturday has several events of interest.
There will be a tour leaving from the Springfield, VT Howard Johnson's Motel
(exit 7 I-91) promptly at 10:00, so be there at 9:30 if you wish to drive up
Rt. 100 for the foliage.
For the more adventuresome, there will be a Fox and Hounds type rallye that
will be starting at the Springfield, VT Howard Johnson's. The drivers' meeting
is at 10:00 (or so) and the first car off will be 10:30. The route goes through
some out-of the way spots and winds up at a secret location. From there cars
will obtain instructions to a general gathering spot in the area where the Rt.
100 tour will end up.
For the wimps^H^H^H^H^Hfolks that don't want to drive their lbc's on the tour
or the rallye, there will be a bunch of folks taking the "Folaige Train" from
the Bellows Falls area.
Everyone will meet up at the Hojo's later on for a tour over to Dublin, NH and
the Dublin New England Church Supper (there will be a charge for this.) We plan
to catch the dinner at 7:00, so presumably there will be some suitable touring
in the area beforehand.
Sunday has the annual Car Show and Autojumble on the grounds of the Westminster
MG Museum in Westminster, VT. Presumably, there will be a charge for this
event, but the charge usually includes admission to the museum, so that helps.
It is a really cool museum if you are interested in the MG automobile.
Now, why am I telling you all (whoops that's all y'all) this. Well, it turns
out that I am the rallye master for the Fox and Hounds event. I would like it
very much if we get a good turnout. Of course, I don't object if you partake in
the other activities. I'd just like to see folks participating.
If you make it to the area, make sure to say "Hi", although I'll be pretty busy
Sat. morning, I'll say "Hi" back at you. However, I assume that I will be much
more amenable to conversation etc. after the rallye is over. I should be pretty
easy to pick out from the crowd.
As for the weather, this event has given us all sorts of interesting memories.
It has ranged everywhere from snow to temps in the lower 80's with no clouds to
everything in between. Despite the threat of snow, I have seen very hardy types
with the hood down and really taking in the VT air. Like 2 years ago when the
MMM MG group pulled in. I think it was in the low 50's, but there they were. Of
course they were wearing some serious sheepskin lined leather bomber jackets!
So, make en effort to get up to the area over the weekend. There'll be a lot of
other tourists in the area, but it'll be fun none the less. See you there!
regards,
rml
