Fellow fiends:
Regarding tranny fluid for my '63 B, a local source for lbc advice suggests
90W gear lube (same as in the diff.) in place of regular 30W motor oil. He
also says that the tranny requires a 'non-detergent' oil. Appearantly,
finding a non-detergent oil in that weight is hard so he uses the 90W stuff.
He doesn't know, off hand, how much volume of lubricant is required. So...
o What does the net.brit-car use in its collective MG tranny?
o What volume of oil will the MGB (early) require (I.E. how much do I buy)?
o Why not a detergent oil? (Something about eating up the gaskets?)
o What's wrong with a detergent oil? (I understand the tranny lubes it
self by splash; does it actually foam up in there?)
At another time on this list, RedLine products were recommended. This will
be a driver car (4,000 miles/year) but not anything hard. Do I *really*
need such a fierce sounding product?
Any and all advice/comments appreciated...
