I happened upon two interesting comments on this subject while reading a book
about Rolls-Royce last night.
1. In the '20's and '30's, RHD was preferred in the "carriage trade" in the US
in that the chauffer could step out onto the curb and open the door for the
passengers. However, the RHD Ghosts and Phantoms were tough to sell on the used
car market because second hand buyers usually didn't employ chauffers.
2. RHD was preferred when driving on the unfenced mountain roads of Europe
because one could see the edge of the road better.
