You would probably be best with either a single 1 3/4 or twin 1 1/4, I
think twin 1 1/2 would be more carb than you could use.

You can pick up a 1 3/4, plus alloy manifold plus K+N for about #70
second-hand. Check out some adds in Mini World. Similarly twin 1 1/4 are
also not too bad second hand.

If you are determined to go for twin 1 1/2 and to fabricate your own
linkage, then Vizards "How to Modify Your Mini" has a bit on how to DIY.
You would still need a manifold for them though.

I can't remember if the 1275GT has a separate inlet and exhaust manifold,
otherwise you are looking at a new exhaust manifold too. LCB ones are
apparently the ones to have.

Most definately.

I can't remember if the head is a straight swap - if I remember I'll look it
up. Certainly put the 1 1/2 on it. I think you may need to swap the
manifolds too. Again, take it to a rolling road.

While I'm here - could someone explain in SIMPLE terms (ie simple enough to
be understood by someone who can just about work out which the business end
of a screwdriver is (I don't know what a cheese danish is though?)) what
the difference between rockers and roller-rockers is (no jokes about
leather jackets and motorbikes please :-)

Daniel.
