Thanks again for the info on engines. My engines both start with FE
and seem to fall into the "modified 1150" category. I finally found the
seal at a local high-priced (Jags and Mercedes <g>) shop. The guy
had a very nice red 69 Spitfire in the back and said "this one doesn't
leak, I'll sell it to you". An LBC which doesn't leak! I can't afford
such a mythological beast <g>.

The timing chain is definitely slack.. more than 1/2" play. However,
I can't keep the car off the road a week while the mechanic goes to
an out-of-state funeral and we wait for the chain and camshaft gear. So,
back goes the cover and we get to repeat the whole mess next week (with
a greater understanding of life).

To: Tim who was asking about taillight gaskets. These seem to keep the
taillight lens from rattling, and seals out water. This is VERY important,
as the sole anchoring points are one screw at the top, and a holder at the
bottom. If the lens is not wedged against the holder at the bottom, the
lens will vibrate and break the plastic across the top of the screw. We
have bodged the whole mess with weatherstripping for now, and are thinking
of going to doublesided foam tape. Of course, ordering the right part
would be better <g>. If the gasket deteriorates too much, the taillight
lens will fall off, generally without you knowing it until you stop.
