TR6 rear suspension Q's

Hi...

My last message seems to have vanished into the void, so I'll try again.

I have some questions regarding my TR6 rear suspension (which is in parts):

1) Should I leave the trailing arms bare aluminum?  Or aluminum-paint them?
Or protect them some other way?  2) Why are 3 or more shims always under each
mounting bracket.  Why not bolt directly to the frame?  3) Is a bottle jack
the best way to remove/install the bushes?
