Keep a CO2 extinguisher at hand if you're welding. Since it won't mess up
things like a dry-chem extinguisher and since you can squirt it and put it
aside for next time (not officially, but it works fine), you are more likely
to use CO2 without thinking. If you need a fire extinguisher, you can't stop
to worry.
Was MIG welding some rear view mirror holes on the old Saab, but the darn door
kept smoking. Shot some CO2 into the door, welded some, shot again, welded
some more... Probably very effective as a back-shielding gas to improve weld
quality as well, but mainly didn't burn down the house.
