Ok, you guys. All this talk of straight-cut and involute gears and hobs and
teeth ( or was that Hobbes' teeth) and machine tooling is actually leading
somewhere relevant to our cars, namely to my questions regarding my XK120 with
a Moss gearbox:
1. Who or what is Moss? The designer of the gearbox? A gear manufacturer? Are
they still in business somewhere in the UK?
2. In the 30's-60's did Jaguar buy gearboxes preassembled from Moss, or did
Jaguar assemble from Moss supplied parts, or did Jaguar make the parts?
3. What other cars used Moss gearboxes that may have parts common with Jaguars?
4. Seals, bearings and gaskets are no problem, but is anyone still selling new
gears and minor parts for Moss gearboxes?
